MATTHEW PHILLIPS  ·  EXT 268
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC THERAPY
Music Therapy
Music therapy is an allied health profession in which music is used as a tool to facilitate growth. Board Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC) use the elements of music to enhance a therapeutic process as youth work through life events in group and individual sessions. Bethany's music therapists provide treatment through:
  • Individualized assessment
  • Music listening and lyric analysis
  • Instrumental and vocal improvisation
  • Songwriting
  • Computer and music techniques
  • Music video creation
  • Music-assisted relaxation
  • Performance-oriented group and individual sessions
  • Theme-specifc intensive groups
  • Co-facilitation of groups with other disciplines
Music Therapy Internships
Bethany Children’s Home is also approved by the American Music Therapy Association as an internship site for music therapy students who have completed all required course work from an accredited school. Interns are selected through an application, interview and audition process, and provided with free housing and meals throughout the six month program. Six interns are accepted each year, three in January and three in July. Contact Matt Phillips at 610-589-4501 or mphillips@bethanyhome.org for more information.
