At Bethany’s upcoming Tribute Gala, we will honor the individuals and organizations whose dedication have made a lasting impact on Bethany Children’s Home and the youth it serves. This year’s honorees reflect a shared commitment to service, partnership and strengthening the community.
This year, John Karahuta will receive the Caroline Engel Award in recognition of his unwavering dedication to Bethany Children’s Home and his longstanding commitment to the youth Bethany serves.
Karahuta first served Bethany as an Education Coordinator at Conrad Weiser High School from 1988 to 1991 and later returned to the role from 2007 to 2014. Through those years, he played a vital role in supporting the educational success and personal growth of countless Bethany students, helping young people navigate their academic journeys while encouraging them to recognize and pursue their potential.
His commitment to Bethany did not end when his time at Conrad Weiser came to a close. In 2023, Karahuta joined Bethany’s Board of Directors, beginning a new chapter of service to an organization that has remained close to his heart. Since then, he has continued to be an active volunteer and advocate, generously sharing his time, talents, and expertise in support of Bethany’s programs and the youth in Bethany’s care.
Whether volunteering at events, lending his expertise, or contributing to strategic initiatives, Karahuta consistently goes above and beyond in his service to Bethany. His dedication reflects a deep belief in Bethany’s mission and in the importance of providing young people with the support, opportunities, and encouragement they need to build brighter futures.
At this year’s Tribute Gala, Bethany will celebrate Karahuta not only for the years he has given to the organization, but for the lasting impact of his service. His journey from educator to board member, volunteer, and advocate is a testament to what it means to remain committed to a mission and the people it serves.

In light of these children’s lives and the incredible dedication of Bethany Staff since 1863, I am truly honored and humbled”, said Karahuta.
